Clutch Replacement

The clutch in your car transmits power from the engine, to the gearbox, to drive the wheels. The clutch is made up of two plates and does this through friction. Naturally the resistance and heat caused by friction causes the clutch to wear and reduces its ability to transfer the engines power. This can lead to the clutch starting to slip, judder or break apart leaving you with little or no drive. Replacing your clutch is not a simple job and requires the entire gearbox to be separated from the engine.

There are several signs your clutch may be worn including:

• A high “biting point”, the clutch pedal comes up a long way before the clutch engages
• Juddering when pulling away
• Difficulty selecting gears
• The engine revs increase on acceleration but the speed doesn’t
